Is The Government Reading Your Mail?

President Bush says he and other government officials have the power to snoop through your mail without a judge’s warrant. Bush made the claim last month in a signing statement attached to a postal reform bill. Bush wrote that the bill “provides for opening of an item of a class of mail otherwise sealed against inspection.” After last year’s revelation of Bush’s secret domestic eavesdropping program, the move caused waves on Capitol Hill among some legislators who said that it contradicted the postal reform bill, as well as existing law.

When I saw this story I was in shock, even though it does not really suprise me…afterall, the government can already listen to your phonecall when you call to check on your grandmother who lives 3 blocks away, without a court order, so why not be able to open your mail, It amazes me that the american people are not outraged about these things happening… It seems to be all accepted in the name of safety, Are you in agreement that the government can read your mail and listen to your phonecalls all in the name of safety? Is safety worth losing freedom? For me, safety should never cost my freedom, afterall the whole war on terror, is about fighting for and bringing freedom. These are my thoughts for what it is worth.
